The Elements of a Dust Collection System

A dust collection system is comprised of many separate elements that all work together to keep an environment safe and free of dust-related hazards.

Pickups, shrouds, nozzles and hoods are all intended to directly pick up dust from its source. This can include a shroud which collects saw dust around a grinder.

Ducts and hoses are intended to take particles away from the source so that they can be safely removed.

Cyclone collectors and pre-tanks are the primary stage of filtration, in which the dust is actually collected into a single area.

Filtration allows dust to be removed from the air, and increases the quality of the air in the environment.

A blower package and motor is instrumental in actually moving the air throughout the system. It is also what causes the most noise pollution, which needs to be carefully managed.

The actual dust collector system is what will collect the dust.

Those that need a portable dust collection system can get an industrial vacuum, which largely provides all of these features in a single compressed and easily used package.
