Getting rid of sawdust

If you are doing woodworking in your shop, a dust collector is a must. OSHA regulations require it to be cleaned up to help keep the workplace safe and healthy. There are a few things you will want to look for in an industrial vacuum.

The Hose

The standard size to look for on the hose is 1 1/4″. This will allow you the flexibility to get into all the tight spaces and clean them out. Many saws have a spot where you can attach this hose directly. While this will not take care of all the sawdust, it will get the majority of it.

The Filter

While you may not be able to control the filter that the unit comes with, you can still upgrade it to a HEPA filter. This will help to capture small particles that other filters do not catch.

Have a System

If you want to move throughout the shop with the vacuum, then it may be best to just use a portable hook that will help keep the hose out of the way. For those with a stationary setup, it is better to have either a dedicated system that works back to the main unit or a dust shroud.
